It is impossible to imagine a day without internet in 21st century, specially when you are on a vacation. You want to post photos of yourself on your social profiles, chat with your friends and family, check your mails and more importantly, what if you get lost? I don’t think those big paper maps of cities come useful in this situation!
If you are going to stay at hotel, you can access to the internet anytime you want while you’re staying at your hotel room and If you want to make your trip worthwhile and stay at a hostel, you have to check before you get a room.
Some restaurants, cafes and malls have free internet and you can easily connect to their wifi but what if you want to access to the internet anytime, anywhere?
In this case you’ll have to buy a sim card and use your data. There are different companies in Iran and you can either buy a temporary or primary sim card.
If you are going to stay for more than a month or you are sure that you are going to come back to Iran we recommend you to buy a primary one, in this case you don’t have to charge your sim card all the time. But if you are staying for just a couple of weeks, you’ll be okay with a temporary sim card.

Mobile Telecommunication Company of Iran, commonly abbreviated as MCI and also known under its brand name “Hamrahe Aval“, is the first and largest mobile operator in Iran.
You can buy a temporary MCI sim card with 2 bucks and there are charge cards available everywhere and you can charge them any time.

These packages are made for those who call themselves an owl! The benefit of buying internet packages is that you can save money on them.
Over night packages are available from 2 A.M till 7 A.M. The price is between 0.05$ (500 MB – 1 day, 2 A.M – 7 A.M and 0.75$ (30 GB – 1 month, 2 A.M – 7 A.M).
There are also some packages which you can buy them for hours between 2 A.M – A.M the bandwDith is between 1-3 GB and the price is changeable between 0.08$ and 0.33$.
You can use this packages any time you want and you can buy them by dialing the number *555*5#. The prices are between 0.1$ (60 MB – 1 day) and 13$ (72 GB – 1 year).
RighTel is the third mobile phone network operator of Iran. RighTel is the first 3G mobile operator in Iran, providing 3.75G mobile telecommunication services to individuals and businesses.
RighTel sim cards have a better internet and prices may be a little higher in comparison with MCI and Irancell. The price of a RighTel sim card in 1.5$ and you can buy internet packages by dialing the number *142#. If you don’t use a package, it costs 0.05$ per minute for you. But if you are willing to buy packages, you have a variety of choices:
You can buy unlimited bandwidth internet for half hour with only 0.04$ or use packages to use them daily or weekly. Daily internet packages have a price between 0.4$ and 0.9$ and weekly packages cost between 0.18$ and 1.25$. There are also other packages available for you, which you can use during a month or a year. As the package price depends on the time you can use them and the bandwidth, they will cost a little more.
You can use your data anywhere and easily access internet, even in mountains or at the subway stations. Only some far-off villages and high peaks of the mountains may give you some trouble.
Also remember, if you want to access to the “You tube”, “Twitter” or “Telegram”, you have to turn your vpn on, cause these sites are filtered in Iran and with out connecting to the vpn you won’t be able to access them.
