The house of Ayatollah Haj Agha Noorullah Najafi in Isfahan is famous as the Constitutional House of Isfahan. This historical monument, was the place where political, religious and freedom-loving figures of Isfahan visited during the Qajar period. It is true that there are many historical monuments in Isfahan province; but each of them has a different spirit and visual appeal. This house is also known as the legitimate house of Isfahan, which is compatible with this space of this house due to further renovation.
In fact, Emadzadeh’s (Isfahan) Constitutional House was built during the Qajar period by Mohammad Taghi Razi in Isfahan. This building has been one of the active political centers during the constitutional and liberation struggles. Haj Agha Noorullah Najafi, the son of Mohammad Taghi Khan Razi, the head of the freedom-loving scholars of Isfahan and Bakhtiari, lived in this house. In this house, struggles against tyranny and for legalism and democracy have been formed by important political figures. Which form part of Iran’s culture and history today. Later, Municipality purchased the beautiful constitutional house; and they renovated it in 2008.
In 2005 this building hot in Iran’s national heritage sites as a historical monument. In legitimate house of Isfahan, in addition to Mohammad Taghi Khan Razi, and his son, who were the head of Najafi family in Isfahan and the head of the freedom-loving scholars, also Sheikh Fazlullah Nouri lived. Isfahan Constitutional House, in addition to it’s political and historical attraction, has a very beautiful view in terms of Iranian and Qajar architecture.
The historical building of Isfahan Constitutional House, like all buildings built in Qajar architecture style, has exterior and interior sections. Apart from all the attractive parts of the house, you can see beautiful decorations, bedding and paintings in a spectacular way throughout the house.
This historic and beautiful house has two alcoves (Shahneshin in Persian). One of them is on the north side of the building; and the other is on the south side of the house.
The beautiful house also has two courtyards. An inner courtyard (Andarooni) and an outer courtyard (Birooni). In the past the main entrance to the house was from the northern part of the house; but today it’s not like that at all and the northern part is destroyed. Today the only entrance of the house is on it’s southern part which opens in the Andarooni (inner courtyard).
This part consists of 4 beautiful facades decorated with beautiful Qajar arches stained glass windows which makes it look elegant. One of the alcoves (Shahneshin) are located in the northern part of the andarooni and overlooks the courtyard with five-door sash. The western front of the inner courtyard consists of a three-door room with stained glass windows and long arched niches. There are also four rooms on the east side; two of them are three-door rooms and the other two have additional windows. And at last, the south side of the inner courtyard of constitutional house of Isfahan includes a hall, located between two three-door rooms. This imaginative hall has decorations such as skillful plastering and stunning paintings.
The outer courtyard (Birooni) consists of a facade, which is a beautiful and magnificent seven-door room, that opens in two rows; one to the south courtyard and one to the north courtyard. In addition to this magnificent rooms, you can see a pond with a beautiful waterfall and fountain in the yard too.
The house has 12 rooms, and it’s largest room is the seven-door room. This room is the most magnificent part of Constitutional House; and is beautifully decorated. You can see glass decoration in the windows on both sides of the rooms; and this, makes an alluring view when the sun shines through it. And like all other buildings built in Persian style, you can see plaster works and beautiful paintings, on the walls of the rom.
Also important halls and rooms in the legitimate house of Isfahan decorated with beautiful paintings called “Shir and Shekar” (translates as milk and sugar in English). These paintings are a kind of paintings, which you can see prominently. And in addition to the plaster works and paintings, sophisticated wooden doors and windows are one of the most attractive decorations of this building.
Spring and autumn are the best times to travel to Isfahan and visit historical monuments such as the Constitutional House; but you should keep in mind that the main attraction of this building is due to the sunlight behind the colored glass of it’s sash. So be sure to visit this house on sunny days.
