Dehdashti House of Isfahan is one of these historical houses. This house was registered in the cultural heritage of Iran in 2006 and is considered one of the national monuments of Iran.
The interesting thing about Dehdashti House is it’s use, which in addition to being a museum, has also become a beautiful cafe-restaurant.
This house dates back to Qajar era. The house has a pleasant atmosphere and since 2016, a cafe – restaurant, named Houger was established here. Renovating old mansions and using them as cafes is very common in Isfahan and cities alike. But Dehdashti house has another benefit in addition to it’s beauty too. The house isn’t so far from the most popular attractions of Isfahan, so it is a great option for relaxing and refreshing after a long day of sight seeing!
The menu, unlike other cafes, is traditional. There are a variety of traditional Iranian drinks in this menu that you can easily order and enjoy. The presence of traditional music in this place has also created a pleasant atmosphere while eating food or having a drink.
You can stay in Dehdashti house and enjoy it’s attractive architecture after an exciting day inside the city! You can reserve a room online or by phone. The best time to visit this house is in the first 6 months of the year. In May and June you can visit or stay in Dehdashti house. In the second 6 months of the year and the cold seasons, it may be a little difficult to sit outdoors and in the backyard; but sipping a bowl of hot local soup can make this cold very bearable for you.
Upon entering the house, you will pass a wooden corridor that ends at an old mansion. The historical complex of Dehdashti House has an outdoor area which includes a beautiful and lush courtyard; and the indoor area is dedicated to beautiful and magnificent reception rooms. The spaces of the house are located around the relatively large and rectangular courtyard of Dehdashti house; and the most important part of it is in the northern part of the courtyard.
The architecture of the house is a little inspired by the western architecture; and this combination of Persian and western architecture doubles the spectacularity of Dehdashti house.
In the northern part of the building, there is a large hall with beautiful three-door rooms on either side. The royal section of Dehdashti House in Isfahan is located exactly behind this hall. Two beautiful porches block the two smaller rooms on the side of alcove (earring rooms in Persian) to double the beauty of the complex.
Old wooden doors connect all of these rooms to each other in order to create a larger space. One of the great architectural parts of this house is the beautiful sash window that opens into the courtyard. As you know, sash windows are like fingerprints of Iranian architecture! In these windows we can see the use small colored glasses that doubles the beauty of the landscape.
You can often se symmetry in Iranian architecture. As a result, you should expect the Southern part of the building to have a similar view to the Northern part. There are three three-door rooms in this section; but you can’t see a large hall similar to the one in the Northern part.
There are two large corridors between these three rooms. One of these corridors leads to the next house and the other corridor is a place to enter the house. In the past, the entrance area had a common porch with the adjacent house, which unfortunately has been destroyed today.
On the Western front of Dehdashti House in Isfahan, you can see two three-door rooms, a five-door room and several corridors. One of the privileged parts of the architecture is an integrated columned porch built overall the porch in the Western part. This porch passes in front of the five-door and three-door rooms. Behind the five-door and three-door rooms the backyard, the pond room and the kitchen are located. The corridors of the Western front are also installed to connect to the pond room, kitchen and the backyard.
In this part of the building you wont see nested rooms. The Eastern front consists of only two three-door rooms and a columned porch, which is not very deep. However, the plasterwork on the porch columns is similar to the Western front and is very beautiful. In the past, this section was used to receive guests.
