What do you know about transport service in Iran?

There are three main ways to move from a city to another in Iran: Airway transport, railway transport and road transport. Water transport isn’t available in the country; because there aren’t rivers to connect cities to each other in Iran. But if you are planning to visit islands located in Persian Gulf, you may need to travel a distance with boat.

Airway Transport service in Iran

All big cities of Iran have at least one airport. You can get a ticket at all airports in Iran; or book your ticket at travel agencies or book a flight online. If you use airway transport, you can save a lot of time; but it will cost more than other available ways of transportation in Iran.

Railway transport service in Iran

You can use train if you want to travel from a city to another; because the majority of cities are connected with one another through the railway.
You will enjoy more comfort using railway transport in comparison with road transport (buses or taxis). And also, you can save money on your trip compared to when you are using air freight.
Another advantage of using train instead of bus or taxi, is that you can lie down and relax until you arrive to your destination. So if you don’t have the problem of time, we strongly recommend you to travel by trains and enjoy the most intriguing natural landscapes of the country.

The North-South Railway of Iran, on which the historical bridge of Veresk is located, has got a global fame since it had a key role to play in WWII. Also Savad’kouh, Gadook, Dow’gol, Versek, Sorkh’Aabaad, Tir’Taashm and MIr’Javeh stations are registered as national heritages of Iran.

Subway in Iran:

If you want to move in the city with a low cost transportation service, subway is the best choice for you. The ticket costs between 10000 – 12000 IRR (0.2$); but only some major cities are facilitated with subway system. In addition to saving money, you can reach to most parts of the city so much faster using subways, specially in a crowded city like Tehran. Though the subway is crowded during rush hours (7-9 A.M, 4-7 P.M); But if you have the problem of limited time, it is the best choice for you.

If you are going to stay in the city for a long time and are planning to use subway services for more than once it is easier to use e-tickets. You can buy them at the station with a price starting from 90000 IRR (0.5 $); and you can charge them up to 500000 IRR (2$) and use them as long as you want.

Tehran’s Subway

Tehran Metro is a rapid transit system in 7 lines which is also connected to Karaj’s subway. Metro services run from 5:30 A.M to 23:00 P.M throughout the city. Keep in mind that in Tehran, the subway tracks are connected with Mehr’aabaad airport, Imam Khomeini International Airport, and also the terminals of west and south of Tehran.

Tabriz’s Subway

The Tabriz Metro  has one line in six stations which runs Northwest from El Goli Station to Ostad Shahriar Station.

Road Transport service in Iran

Road transport between the cities of Iran takes place in two ways: you can travel using bus or taxi. Some major bus terminals have buses or mini buses to smaller towns; and at the same stations you can see taxi’s going to different destinations that of course cost more than buses. For daily transport in the cities, there are buses and different kinds of taxis available for you; or you can choose to ride a bicycle. If you haven’t brought your bike with you, there are bicycle stations in Tehran. By registering you can borrow bikes for as long as you want 24/7.

Bus

Bus transportation is available in all cities of Iran; and rapid transit system is available in big cities such as Tehran, Mashhad and Tabriz. In order to escape traffic, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is the best choice and also there are other ordinary bus services covering paths which are not covered by BRT. In order to use BRT you have to have an e-pay ticket which you can buy in metro stations. They are chargeable in metro and BRT stations. You can use them for both subway and bus.

Tehran BRT

Tehran BRT is working in 10 different lines 24/7 and it covers most important streets of Tehran such as Vali-easr street. The BRT lines are working in separate line specified for buses and that’s how you can easily scape from traffic, specially during the rush hours.

In Iranian buses, men and women enter and exit through separate gates; in other words, there is gender segregation in the buses.

VIP Buses and Mini Buses

VIP buses are used for traveling between two different cities; and you can buy the ticket form major terminals of every city. There are also mini buses available for shorter distances. They cost less and are used if you are less than 20 people. So if you are traveling with a group of people they can be a good choice for you; and of course they are less comfortable in comparison with VIP buses.

Taxi

Taxis are widely available in every city of Iran. There are different kinds of taxis available in Iran. In Iran, they always move with four passengers, one sitting in the front and three in the back. You can also take private taxis too but it will cost more.
Taxis are equipped with taxi meter and you will be charged on the basis of the distance you cover by the taxi.

Van taxis and online taxis are available in Iran too. There are some agencies where you can call them and they’ll send you private car or you can dial the number 133 in order to get wireless taxis.
Also there is a special taxi for ladies, which are available in big cities. All the drivers are women and they will accept lady customers only. You can reserve a taxi by calling them at 1814 or on some online apps like Snapp.

At terminals, you can find taxis which you can travel between the cities with them. You will pay more than bus, but you will arrive at your destination faster.

Online Taxi in Iran

There are two online taxi service companies in Iran. Snapp and Tap30, which are considered the largest ones in their own kind. The advantage of this taxi services is that they are available 24/7; and they’re pretty useful in cities like Tehran where there is no life time in. You need to download and install the applications relevant to these online taxi services on your smartphone and use them to call for a taxi.

Vans are a sort of taxi which are used as public means of transport in Tehran and some other major cities. The only difference is that they start their trip with 10 passengers. And there is a difference between the fee of the ordinary taxis and vans, yet you need to wait for some minutes more until they are fully loaded and ready to hit the road.
